Making Bread and Butter

Today we made bread and butter. We worked on following a recipe, listening to directions, taking turns, and counting and measuring. We learned about yeast and what it does to the bread. We talked about how at home we would use a bowl to make bread, cakes, and/or muffins, but for our bread recipe it called for a freezer bag. We took turns putting flour, sugar, salt and yeast into the bag. We then closed the bag and sang our bread making song while mixing the ingredients. We then added water and oil and mixed it up again. Then we each took a turn kneading the dough on the table. We then let the dough rest or as we said, "Take a nap." The dough rested for 5 minutes and then was placed into the pan to rise. Mrs. Miller then took the dough home to bake it for snack tomorrow. Each preschooler made their own container of butter. We used heavy whipping cream and a dash of salt and then shook it over and over again. YUMMY!
